The Baroar

The Baroar is a legend that tells of the origin of the people surnamed Mandailing Nasution in the area of North Sumatra, Indonesia.
According to the story, the Baroar are orphans handsome. He has a face that is very similar to the face Sutan Pulungan son, King of the Kingdom of Huta Bargot. Similarity of both the child's face makes Sutan Pulungan and queen felt very humiliated, because people often mistakenly greeted the children. Finally, Sutan Pulungan decided to kill the Baroar.
Once upon a time in Mandailing, North Sumatra, there is a small kingdom called Huta Bargot.

The kingdom was located across the Batang Gadis River. King who holds Sutan Pulungan. He has a consort and son was a baby. In between busy taking care of the kingdom, Sutan Pulungan often take the time to go into the woods to hunt deer.

On a day with some people Sutan Pulungan commander and his soldiers to hunt deer in a dense forest. Sutan Pulungan bring his favorite hunting dog who is very smart and agile named Sipamutung. When they reached the middle of the woods, Sipamutung suddenly sprinted toward somewhere. Not long after, he was heard to bark with a thrill. Hear the barking his pet dog, Sutan Pulungan immediately ordered his soldiers to go to that place.
"Soldiers! Hurry up you guys one after another the Pamutung! I'm sure he'll find a deer! "Said Sutan Pulungan to the soldiers.

The order that some soldiers were rushed to the spot Sipamutung bark. Arriving at the place they saw a woman ( Baroar`s mom) rushing away from the shadows under a large banyan tree. While Sipamutung still barking. When the soldiers approached and examined under the tree, I saw a handsome baby boy lying on a boulder. Not long after, Sutan Pulungan arrived.

"Hey, soldier! Where the deer? "Said Sutan Pulungan.

"Please, Your Majesty! Apparently not find Sipamutang barking deer, but a baby, "said a soldier.

"What did you say? A baby? "Said Sutan Pulungan surprised as he approached the baby.

Who put the baby on top of this rock?" Sutan Pulungan asked.

"Please, Your Majesty! Servant does not know. But, when newly arrived slaves and others saw a woman  flashed very quickly leave this place, "said another soldier.

The soldiers heard the explanation, Sutan Pulungan was convinced that the baby was accidentally thrown away by her parents. Finally, he and his entourage decided to stop hunting and promptly took home that poor baby.
Arriving in the Country Huta Bargot, Sutan Pulungan handed the baby to an elderly widow named the Saua, who has long craved a child.

"Thank you, Your Majesty! Servants will take care of this baby as a child of his own servants, "said the old widow with a happy heart.
Every time I went to work the fields, the old woman put the baby in the baroar, the kennels. Therefore, the people also named him the Baroar.

Time was passing. The five-year-old Baroar with a very handsome face. But strangely, the face and physique very similar Baroar Sutan Pulungan son, so that the people around him can no longer distinguish between them. People often mistakenly say hello when you meet with one of both children. If the Baroar walked alone, those who met him always saluted him and greeted him like a son to greet Sutan Pulungan.
But conversely, if it met the son Sutan Pulungan, they treat him like a son of the average person.
Upon learning her son often gets such treatment from those around him, Sutan Pulungan and queen felt very insulted. Therefore, they decided to kill the Baroar in secret so as not known by many people.
Sutan Pulungan collecting all the royal princes to the murder plan secret. In the trial, he ordered his immediate superiors to hold traditional ceremonies Godang Sopo, the ceremony a large pole replacement convention center that had rotted. Sutan Pulungan will hold the traditional ceremony on a large scale in the palace of the Kingdom of Huta Bargot, because he wanted to take advantage of the commotion to cover his actions killed the Baroar.

"How do we kill the Baroar, sire?" Said one commander.

"Before inserting a replacement pole into the hole where to plant, you first have to drop the Baroar into the hole, and overwrite it with a replacement pole," said Sutan Pulungan. Sutan Pulungan also ordered to a commander to give a cross on the forehead of the Baroar with whiting.

"Please, Your Majesty! Why should the crossed-Baroar? "Said another commander wanted to know.

"The point is that you can distinguish with certainty which of the Baroar and which is also my son, so that you
not wrong to kill the Boroar, "said Sutan Pulungan

Similarly, a district chief appointed by the King immediately seek the Baroar to give a cross on his forehead.
On the appointed day, the ceremonies will be held soon. The whole people of the country that will follow the ceremonies had been gathered in the courtyard.
During the ceremony Sutan Pulungan also organizes a variety of attractions and performing arts.
It aims to divert the attention of the citizens in attendance for the commander to carry out the task to kill the Baroar without their knowledge.

When the residents are busy rejoicing, the commander was preparing to put the pole into the hole
Just then, they saw the Baroar already marked on the forehead was standing not far from them. Clandestinely, they were immediately arrested and the Baroar dropped into the hole, then overwrite it with a big pole.
No one who knows what they have done, because the residents were having revelers.
The upstream Balang felt relieved and happy, because it managed to run the task smoothly.
Similarly, perceived by Sutan Pulungan, because the Baroar who always insulted him dead.

However, since the program was implemented, the son of Sutan Pulungan was never again seen in the palace.
The entire royal family into a panic and immediately seek Sutan Pulungan son.
They've been looking around the palace, but they still do not find it.
Sutan Pulung began to worry lest the commander erred in performing their duties.

For that, he was immediately sent out a district chief went to the house to see if the Saua Baroar still with him.
It was true. Once there, delegates saw the Baroar spliting firewood along the Saua.
He was soon back to the palace to report the matter to the King.

"Please, Your Majesty! It was the Baroar still alive.

He is still with the old widow, "reported the messenger.
Hearing the report, direct Pulungan Sutan fury.

He was very angry with the commander who have mistaken their duties.

"Hey, the commander! You have been wrong to kill.
Children who you put in the hole that is my son, not the Baroar! "Said Sutan Pulungan blushing

Apparently a mistake was started some time before the traditional ceremony was held.
Sutan Pulungan son saw a cross on the forehead of the Baroar. Because you want to like the Baroar, he had someone to make a similar mark on his forehead.
Then he went into the crowd ceremony, and that's when the commander arrested in secret, then put it into the hole.
Sutan Pulungan who has lost his son immediately ordered three men to kill the Baroar commander.
The third commander was immediately headed to the Baroar with drawn sword.
On arriving there, they did not find the Baroar and the Saua.

Apparently, no one who knew murder plan that will be conducted by the commander of the Baroar.
The man told the Saua to immediately save the Baroar. So, before the commander arrived at his house, he was carried off the Saua Baroar to areas that are yellowing paddy rice fields, not far from the banks of the Batang Gadis.
When we reached the area of rice fields, the Saua take the Baroar to hide in a hut whose roof is only a frame that stands in the middle of rice fields. Therefore, he believed that the commander is bound to catch up and find them before arriving at the riverbank.

"My son! We're hiding here alone! If we keep running, they'll catch us, because they can run fast! "Said the Saua while embracing the body of the Baroar.

The commander was suddenly lost track. When viewing a hut in the fields, they were approached. When it came near the hut, they move suddenly stopped. The Baroar Saua and the even more frightened, thinking that the commander is aware of their existence. But apparently, the commander was stopped, because he saw there was a bird perched on top
of Balam roof of the hut's frame while continuing to sing.

"Let our friends and find them elsewhere! For what we are looking at the old widow and the Baroar in the hut. If they're hiding in there, it's impossible Balam bird perched up there, "cried the commander who led the chase.

Once the commander is quite far from the hut, the Saua and the Baroar out of the hut and ran toward the Batang Gadis River. But unfortunately, the commander saw them again.

"Hi, it's them! Let's catch, "cried the leader of commander.

The Saua and the Baroar also run faster and faster. When they arrived on the banks of the river, Sungai Batang Gadis it was a big flood, so that they can not cross.

While the commander who pursue it even closer. They can not do anything else. In the state of life is threatened, the Saua immediately prostrated to the ground to ask help of God Almighty.

"Oh my God! Save our lives! "Said the Saua.

When her head back, he saw a large wooden Saua very long drifts across the river.
Surprisingly, a large timber that stops right in front of them in a state transverse to the other side.
Without thinking and feeling scared at all, the old widow and the Baroar soon climbing the great wood.
Once I got across the river, a large timber that floods washed away again. The new commander arrived on the banks of the river can no longer pursue them. Finally, the Baroar Saua and the survivors of the death.
That said, several years later, across the Batang River stood a royal girl named Panyabungan Tonga-Tonga led by the queen Baroar together. The breed became known as the people surnamed Mandailing Nasution.
